It is called March Madness simply because there are so many games going on throughout the country, usually during the same time, in rapid succession during the month of March. ReplyDeleteMarch Madness is a name of college basketball elimination tournament. It take place on March, so it called March Madness, and it is also called Big Dance. It became a one of the biggest sports festival in the U.S.A. 68 teams join the tournament, and they are divided into 4 groups, and top 4 teams from each groups can advance the next tournament. The 16 teams called "Sweet Sixteen"! How sweet is that? Anyway, from the Sweet Sixteen stronger 4 teams can advance next stage, and it is called Final four! I expected more humorous name like Sweet Sixteen. In the 2010 March Madness tournament, Montana was seeded 14th in the east region bracket, facing the third-seeded New Mexico Lobos in the first round.

There is an interesting ritual in March Madness. As a tournament ritual, the winning team cuts down the nets at the end of regional championship games as well as the national championship game. Starting with the seniors, and moving down by classes, players each cut a single strand off of each net.The head coach cuts the last strand connecting the net to the hoop, claiming the net itself.
